Secret Escapes: The Office That's Going Places
A Tiki Hut cocktail bar, a secret 'Nordic' room, walls plastered with images of palm beaches, and surf boards on meeting room doors. The new central London office for Secret Escapes, the travel company offering luxury deals at affordable rates, was only ever going to have one theme, but that does not mean creating it was a simple process.
On the logistics side, the client wanted to move into their new 20,000 ft² space nine weeks after awarding Rubicon Interiors the project following a competitive tender process, so we were instantly up against a very tight deadline. We were also briefed to liaise very closely with their IT specialists, juggling their timeline and needs into our own planning.
In regard to design, there were more challenges. While the ‘travel’ theme was obvious, it was important to keep a balance between excitement and professionalism in how this was executed – we needed to plan a space that offered a sense of creativity and connection, but also one that was conducive to concentrated work. We did this by creating booths and themed rooms for private meetings, and open areas for informal work and catch-ups. We gave each space a unique theme – be it the sunny Maldives or the snowy Nordics - and kept a creative flow throughout the office with vibrant wall graphics.
It worked. Thanks to our intricate planning and imaginative design, the new Secret Escapes project was delivered on schedule and the resulting workplace is bright, spacious, exciting and just as inspirational as any tropical beach.
