Clerkenwell Design Week 2018

Clerkenwell Design Week 2018

Clerkenwell Design Week is the UK's leading independent design festival taking place in EC1, the heart and home of design.

The Rubicon Design Team visited over 10 showrooms ranging from furniture suppliers to flooring suppliers. Below are highlights of our visit.

Tommy

My first Clerkenwell Design Week was very helpful. Not only did I enjoy the day, I also expanded my knowledge on new and existing products out there in the market. Building on the relationships with the suppliers' representatives is another positive outcome from the day. I was particularly impressed with Vtec, Orangebox and Frovi.

Vtec

I was impressed with the quality of the 3D wall panels and the range they had to offer. The acoustic panels looked striking and could be an effective product to include in a reception area. Also couldn’t complain about the free doughnuts and beer.

Frovi

Frovi’s new designs introduce a domestic feel to a traditional office space. Their new line of storage and shelving breaks away from traditional office cabinets to a modern open feel.

Frovi has also worked on a new line of task tables and collaborative spaces. Inspired by biophilia, the company has incorporated outdoor elements into their designs. The showroom was accented with plants and natural materials to create a welcoming environment.

Orangebox

Orangebox emphasizes the modern open workplace setting. The showroom was open across 3 levels and featured the “fielding” tables and media pods. There are many different styles, to accommodate public and private spaces. Collaboration pods ranged from high back furniture to enclosed glass spaces for formal meetings.

Orangebox is also taking a domestic aesthetic in their designs. The company is breaking into the informal trend to meet diversity in the workplace.

Ergonomics plays a role in the design of Orangebox task chairs and seating options. They are Designed to increase productivity and be adaptable to the user.

To me, Orangebox has focused on an open and collaborative work space, moving away from cubicles, closed offices and hierarchy. This furniture would best suit a modern, creative company that focuses on working as a team.

Exubia

This company specialise in living walls for interior and exterior spaces. They are able to specify plants to best suit the environment and the needs of the space. Interesting about Exubia is they also have a line of water filtration systems and coffee machines suitable to any clients needs.

Exubia works with people to "exubiate" their office space, with plants and coffee machine options to suit their office.

Sophie

I especially found the furniture showrooms interesting as I work with our furniture team to specify certain pieces of furniture for projects. Being able to sit on the chairs, meeting booths, sofas etc was really helpful as I can now relate to them.

These images were taken in the Elite furniture showroom and the Frovi furniture showroom.

Panaz

Panaz is one of Europe's leading suppliers of high quality decorative fabrics and wallcoverings.

These are a really unique material. I really like the fact it’s made from recycled waste yet it looks sophisticated, organic and colourful. I could see them being installed as a feature wall, or as a funky worktop in a reception area/breakout area.

The Panaz range is suitable for both interior and exterior design projects.

For me, it is a great sustainable and adaptable product, The fact that it is available in 15 standard colours and in 3 standard design finishes; Strata, Incline and Weave...makes it even more impressive.
